Zapanta tallied 978 pinfalls and bested the five other young bowlers in the final roll-off to win the crown in the 2009 Fiji Water Prince of the Lanes at the Capital Bowling Center last Sunday.
Except for the November title that went to Manuel Joseph Aldan, Zapanta could have reigned in the monthly competitions last year.
He maintained his last month’s performance to guarantee himself the year-end title beating Leeann Yarobwemal who came in closest to him with 922 pin falls.
Knocking down 174 pins, Yarobwemal beat Zapanta in Game 1 of the final match. Zapanta did not only recover but put up a big lead as he struck 176 pins in Game 2 and secure his crown with a total of 336 pinfalls.
In the Budweiser Queen of the Lanes, Ron Cal who topped the roll-off tallying 1,339 pinfalls defeated Diane Chong by four pinfalls to win the annual crown.
Chong who defeated Carol McKenzie by five pinfalls in the semi finals, knocked 164 pins during the final round behind Cal’s 168 pinfalls.
