Catches in fishing tournament twice bigger this year

The tourney’s final results however showed that it was not only Cabo Express that had a catch twice heavier. All winners in different categories have brought much heavier catches compared to the same species brought in last year.

In the billfish category, Cha Cha II captained by Stan Waki caught a 277.5-pound blue marlin. Last year, Tony Maestro and Manding Legaspi of Saint Patrick brought in only 145.35 lbs.

Even the second and third place winners have brought in catches that are twice heavier than those caught by the same place winners last year.

Carmelita captained by Judge Alex Castro caught fishes with a total weight of 259.15 pounds. Last year, Saina captained by Takede brought in a total of 121. lbs only.

   In Yellow Fin Tuna category, Jesse Muna and anglers, Sidro Sablan and Jose Muna of The Marianas caught 49.10 lbs. This is almost three times heavier than the yellow fin tuna caught last year by Arnold Seman, Lt.gov. Tim Villagomez and Public Health Sec. Kevin Villagomez of Dr. V.

Last year’s wahoo which was 23.30 lbs,. was also just half the size of this year’s catch by John Sablan’s team of MV Gloria, which weighs 52.85 lbs.

The 19.15 pounds Mahi Mahi caught this year by Mike James and John Hatig of Emmanuel is also much heavier than last year which was only 6.25 lbs.

Even in Skip Jack Tuna category, the 21.65-pound catch of Steven Pixley of boat Zeppelin outsized that of Alberto Rago’s last year which was only 14.05 lbs.

The winners of this year’s tournament brought home up to $2,000 cash prizes.
