Cell Pro ousts Williams for Blue Haus finals

A couple mistakes led to Sherwin Williams’ demise as they fell to Cell Pro, 75-71 at Gualo Rai last Friday.

Jun Tabora went 2-for-2 on free throws to give team Williams the leverage in the final quarter.

Cell Pro’s Roger Herrera, who led the scores with 27 points, later took possession but was blocked by a right hand from Dado Vistal. With the clock still running, Herrera recovered the ball and assisted Leo Itaas on a layup to turn the game.

En route to a two-pointer, Sherwin Williams’ Jojo Garon ran for the basket but committed a charging foul.

Cellular Pro had earlier dominated the first quarter with 26 points, allowing only seven points on a solid defense from Herrera and Rocyl Ritual. The finalists are now bound for this Sunday’s championship game against MBI.

With six seconds still remaining, Sherwin William’s Vic Mallari fouled out on a defensive foul against Herrera. Herrera hammered one of his two free throws and missed his second, which bounced off Garon and out of the line.

Cellular Pro, regaining possession, secured their finals seat on a final basket from Roy Hernandez. Sherwin Williams went undefeated during the regular season, posting six wins and topping five teams in Group B.

MBI, which topped Group A, defeated both Williams and Cell Pro to reach the championship.

Ritual and Itaas also notched double digit scores with 17 and 10 points, respectively.

This Sunday’s finals match starts at 7 p.m.
