Chamber golf tourney next month

The tournament is an annual fundraising event for the SCC’s Educational Committee and its education/scholarship awards.

Originally scheduled in October, SCC moved its tournament closer to Christmas to afford golfers’ wives the chance to allow their husbands to participate by way of Christmas presents. Golfing husbands would then be able to reward their wives with any of a number of expensive, gorgeous, and luxurious items made available at the raffling event during the SCC’s awards banquet, which follows the tournament.

This year’s event is played in a two-man best ball scramble format with Men’s Low Gross, Men’s Low Net (Double Peoria), and Women’s Low Net (Double Peoria) categories. Entry fee is $95 per player. Registration fee on the day of the tournament is $105. Entry fees include greens fees, prizes, and the awards banquet. Show time is 6 a.m. and tee time is 7 a.m.

An excellent and lengthy list of awards and raffle prizes are offered to participants.

Hole-in-one prizes are offered by Bank of Hawaii ($25,000), Triple J Motors (Hyundia Accent), Century Insurance/AON ($5,000) and Takagi and Associates Insurance ($5,000). Closest to the Pin awards include round trip tickets to the U.S. and Japan contributed by Delta Air Lines. Contests for the longest drive will be held as well.

First, second, and third place winners in each category will win $600, $300 and $200, respectively.

Saipan Chamber of Commerce’s Douglas Brennan thanked the many SCC members that are contributing to making this year’s tournament a success and wished all golfers the best of luck.

The SCC — founded in 1959 and incorporated in 1976 — is the largest private business organization in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. The Chamber works to promote and protect business, economic and civic interests, and the general health and welfare of our islands.
