The schedule will be examined by Hong Kong-based regional director B.H. Chow for approval before Borja and Ada fly off to Rota next week to settle the competition’s program.
A double elimination format is possible but it is not certain yet, Ada told Marianas Variety yesterday.
“We’d like to get the kids to play as much as they can,” he noted.
Rota and Tinian are “playing games every day” and are on track so far, said Borja. The Saipan Little League’s playoffs will end no later than May 15.
The junior division’s finals match between the Martha Retail Store-BTS Program Survivors and pennant champion IT&E Fielders is scheduled for Saturday, May 7 at 12 p.m. A consolation game for third and fourth place will be played in the morning (9 a.m.) between the Natibu Sports Association Falcons and Ol’ Aces.
The district tournament is slated for May 28-30. Following the selection of Saipan’s All-Star teams, players will be flown to Rota between May 26 and 27.
Selection process for the junior division started last night. The SLLB’s Board of Directors will continue tomorrow with the senior division. All-Star players for the big and majors divisions will be chosen on May 11 and 13, respectively.
John Reyes sponsors uniforms for Saipan All-Stars
“Former congressman John Reyes sponsored the uniforms of Saipan’s All-Star teams through the efforts of James Ada and Anne Flores,” said Borja.
“We also want to thank Charles Cepeda from Pacific Trading Company for sponsoring the Saipan Little League’s trophies and Senator Juan Ayuyu for sponsoring the tournament’s baseballs.”
“The Saipan Little League thanks Ada Gym for letting us use their facilities and the Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization for allowing us to use the field on Tuesdays and Thursdays,” added Flores.
Borja commended Flores for being the first woman to be elected as the SLLB’s president.
