Baseball: The CNMI baseball team tied 2-2 with Guam last Tuesday at Asahi Ball Field. They conquered the Yap team yesterday, dominating them 15-1.
Athletics:
Female participants in the athletics division earned recognition when Mamiko Oshima Berger finished first with 46 minutes and 9 seconds in the women’s 10k meter run finals, entitling her to a gold medal. She was followed by Nicole Layson and Sheena Subido from Guam.
Jacque Wonenberg earned a gold medal after placing first in the women’s javelin throw, and a bronze from the women’s high jump event. Jenequa Benavente came next with another gold medal in the discus throw.
Basketball:
The CNMI’s women’s basketball team also acquired a victory after defeating Chuuk in a blow out game yesterday, scoring 82-14.
Meanwhile, the men’s basketball team defeated Palau in a close game last Tuesday, scoring 67-61. Jericho Cruz scored the highest, making 28 points throughout the game. They lost yesterday to Kosrae however, with 95-88.
Table Tennis:
The CNMI’s table tennis team continues their undefeated streak after taking down Palau and Guam at Ngrachamayong Cultural Center yesterday, earning them a gold medal for the men’s team event. They won their first team matches last Tuesday, against Pohnpei and Kosrae.
Their team now prepares for the men’s singles events, which will be played today.
