Because it is a Holiday (Martin Luther King Day) 4 games will be played on that day. Opening ceremony will begin at 1pm as well as the drawing of who will play who.
1st game will start at 2:30pm, 2nd game will be at 4:30pm, 3rd game will be at 6:30pm, and 4th game will be at 8pm.
Because there are 9 teams, 8 out of 9 teams will be playing on that day while the 9th team will have their first game on Wednesday, Jan. 19th at 6:30.
There will be a technical meeting on Monday, January 3rd, at 6pm, at ADA Gym Conference room. It is mandatory for all coaches to attend while players are more than welcome to participate.
The technical meeting will be conducted by Gabriel White. And he will go over the FIBA rules & regulations but most importantly, the new rules and the correct definition. We will also have Q&A’s during that time and will try to answer anything pertaining to the league.
The league draws 9 competitive teams. The teams are: the returning Champions of 2009-2010 team PROSPECT, team MOBIL coached by Marvin Deocares, team IP&E KONFLIKT coached by Norman del Rosario, team HOOPAHOLICS coached by Jerry Diaz, team OL ACES coached by Elias Rangamar, team NMC PROA coached by Rufino Aguon, and team SATBAHI coached by Marlon Sison.
All players must be at least 18 years old and above. For age verification purposes, ALL players must provide a copy of their birth certificate and/or passport to verify their eligibility to play.
The league officials are requesting for all teams to turn in all the requirements before the kick-off date next month.
The league placed the cap at 9 teams for the up coming league as the teams have recruited the best of the best players on Saipan.
Just a brief over view of what the team rosters would look like, team Prospect consists of Coach/Player Perry Inos, Jeff Pagaro, Alex Lauron, Ehrol Peredo, and Darwin Barbo.
Team Mobil consists of Jun Estolas, George DeGuzman, Pando Muleta, Leo Factor, and Bon Bon Tamayo.
Team IP&E Konflikt consists of Elmer Esdrelon, Jomar Tumaquip, Edsel Mendoza, Edwin Santos, Kae Bernardo, and Ivan Devero.
Team Hoopaholics consist of Dave Sablan, John Jowner, Kelvin Fitial, Mel Manibusan, John Sablan, James Villacrusis, Gus Palacios, and Ponce Rasa.
Team NMC PROA consists of mostly the national players, which are Pete Iguel, Peter Mendiola, Jack Lizama, Dan Barcinas, Joe Villacrusis, and Charles Quincy Johnson.
Team Ol Aces consists of both veterans and young guns such as Peter Camacho, Tyron Omar, Jose Tumaquip, Trevor Ogumoro, Marvin Rabaliman, Juan Maratita, player/ coach Elias Rangamar and possibly, coming back from the military, Abong Camacho.
The Roster for Satbahi is still pending.
The last two that were admitted into the league were the Fundamentalists lead by Kirk Schuller and Rollers lead by Luis Crisostomo. Kirk Schuler will be teaming up with some soccer players on the island, while the Rollers are composed of senior players under the Rollers Basketball Club.
All games will be indoors at the Gilbert C. Ada gymnasium. Tentative schedule will be two games a night with the first game starting at 6 pm and the second starting at 8 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Complete uniforms or identical color tops with visible number is a must during each game. Players without uniform during the game will NOT be allowed to play.
The league will follow the round robin format which totals 36 games for the regular season.
Then Top 6 teams will advance to the play-offs in which the top 2 teams will get a bye.
Play-Offs will follow the single elimination round. You lose, you’re out. Finally, Finals will be best of 3. Like before, there is only one Champion in this league.
