Dolphins outrun Mantas, 2-0 in MISO soccer

The Dolphins had a 1-0 advantage in the first half following Elisa Fejeran’s goal in the 13th minute.

“[The first half] was the best half of the season so far,” said MHS coach Joseph Elger after the match. “I’m really proud of the girls.”

The Manta Rays’ goalie Coquina Teregeyo took a beating in the second half, taking blows from Lyvette Lacsina, Fejeran, and Krizelle Alforeza. It all boiled down to Lia Rangamar, who notched MHS 2’s second point.

The Mantas gained possession early in the second half. A missed pass sent the ball straight to Lacsina, who ran 30 yards before losing the ball to three Southern defenders.

Alforeza had another try at the goal – this time sending the ball through the field, only to be stopped several feet from the net. Joining the Dolphins’ offense were Gemmilie Eugenio, Goldie Aque, Rima Halaby, Deveney Dela Cruz, and Windy Orcine.

Both teams scrambled back and forth for the next 10 minutes, making countless close calls. Aque made a corner kick, which Teregeyo deflects. Aque goes for another try but misses the goal.

Elger praised SSHS and their goalie for their performance against the Dolphins.

MHS 1 will face Kagman High School in tomorrow’s game.
