Falcons extend win streak by trouncing Sandlot, 12-2

THE Falcons’ momentum remains unbroken in the 2024 Tan Holdings Saipan Baseball League as they are now on an eight-game winning streak after dominating the Sandlot, 12-2, at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Tuesday.

The Sandlot started quietly with one hit courtesy of Diego Camacho but was picked off on second base for the third out.

The Falcons seemed to have fallen into the same gutter as the Sandlot’s infield made quick work of the first two batters for two consecutive outs. However, the Sandlot’s pitcher suddenly lost his touch from the pitcher’s mound as he could not find the strike zone. This allowed Ian Norita and Henry Aguon to round the bases for two runs on walks, 2-0.

In the top of the second inning, the Sandlot were down to their last out after just two batters but managed to battle through the odds with two runs contributed by Juan Iguel and Camacho for an RBI each to even the score, 2-2.

The Sandlot’s time in the spotlight was short-lived, however, as the Falcons’ scored multiple runs. The onslaught started  with a run scored off an error while Tonchu Norita and AJ Evangelista earned separate RBIs. The Sandlot tried to stop the bleeding with back-to-back outs, but the Falcons continued to load the bases and eventually squeezed in four more runs to lead comfortably, 9-2.

The Sandlot’s morale was significantly affected as they were left silenced with no hits recorded in the next two innings. The Falcons were also held down in the third inning but regained enough momentum in the bottom of the fourth to score three more runs and further extend the deficit, 12-2.

The Sandlot had one last chance to avoid the 10-run mercy rule, but they only connected one hit before the Falcons snagged the final out needed to end the game early and remain the only undefeated team so far this season.
