The game stopped at the top of the fifth inning via mercy rule, as Fielders’ Alonzo Pedro struck out Spencer Camacho.
Lead-off batter Peter Lieto struck a single at the bottom of the first and reached the scoring position before heading home on an error. Poland Masaharu followed with another single, and was driven in by first baseman Jacob Tomokane.
Tomokane returned home thanks to Jared Lizama. Lieto tallied two RBI singles to drive in left fielder Alex Aldan and Patrick Tenorio. Lieto reached the home plate on another error by Camacho.
The Fielders led eight-to-none by the bottom of the second inning, and added one more run from Alan Aguon. Starting pitcher Carl Camacho allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out two before switching out with Pedro. Pedro walked one but struck out Fred Nebrida, Derek Olopai, and Camacho to close the top of the fifth.
The Fielders drew six more runs at the bottom of the third. Aldan went to firstbase via hit-by-pitch and was driven home with Tenorio by Lieto’s single. Masaharu drove Lieto in with an RBI single. The Fielders – 15 runs ahead – capped the night off with seven more runs at the bottom of the fourth.
Lieto went 3-for-4 with three runs and three singles. Masaharu went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Aguon, Lizama, Aldan, and Tenorio all tallied three runs while Camacho and Tomokane scored two each.
Fielders 6, Falcons 2
The junior division’s IT&E Fielders also triumphed after beating the Natibu Sports Association Tanapag Falcons, 6-2 last Sunday.
Lead-off batter Ian Rogolifoi hit a single and took off to home plate, lifting the Fielders, 1-0 at the bottom of the first. Kai Wanket struck out, while Keene Guerrero reached first base via error by Falcons’ Ian Norita. Guerrero stole to second before being driven in by Davin Ada’s sacrifice bat.
The Falcons scored their first run at the top of the second from Barry Sunumai.
The Fielders – still ahead – pulled away in the next couple innings. Rogolifoi struck a triple at the bottom of the third and sped off to home plate on a sacrifice bat by Kai Wanket. Catcher Gayvon Uchau walked at the bottom of the fourth and scored the Fielders’ fourth run. Jack Espinosa hit an RBI single, stole to second base, and reached the scoring position before being sent home by Rogolifoi.
With loaded bases at the top of the sixth, the Falcons made their second – and final – run from Norita after Sunumai’s base on ball.
Rogolifoi went 3-for-4 with two runs, two singles, and one triple. Ada allowed two hits, walked four, and struck out five. Wanket replaced Ada at the top of the seventh to add two strike outs.
