And to the main event contenders, it means more than just a fight.
For Guam warrior Manny “The Enforcer” Chong, the “Collision” is something he waited for three long years after losing to Kelvin “The Big Hit” Fitial in December 2006 during Fiery Fighting Island that was held in Guam.
The rematch, according to Trench Tech MMA promoter, Cuki Alvarez will be Chong’s big chance to redeem himself.
On the other hand, Fital is looking at the event as a great opportunity to retain his reign in the Marianas’ mixed martial arts.
He has to defend not only the title he won against Chong three years ago but crowns he earned in two consecutive victories, one of which is the knock out win against Ed “Zeppelin” Carpenter in the Gorilla Warfare’s Battle Ready.
At 41, Chong is a veteran in MMA and many consider him to be past his prime. Yet, his 17-6 record still says it is going to be tough for any one to beat him.
Besides his loss to Fitial, all Chong’s other losses are attributed to UFC superstars if not to Pacific Extreme Combat champions.
Alvarez commented, “Manny is a true island warrior and loves to fight! He says he lives for the rush he gets when he steps into the octagon or ring.”
Tomorrow at the Saipan World Resort’s Royal Taga Hall, Chong vowed to deliver an awesome performance against Fitial. Win, lose or draw, the Guam warrior said, he will try to knock his opponent out.
Fighting out of Marianas Elite, Fitial who weighs 245 lbs not only brings the pain, but can tolerate it he as showed in most of his recent fights.
He was pounded for four minutes in the first round taking too many punches in the head and face before turning the tides around and knocked Carpenter out in the second round.
