FRANCISCO M. Sablan Middle School II triumphed over Saipan International School II in a three-set match in the boys middle school division, junior varsity category of the NMIVA-PSS Interscholastic Volleyball League SY23-24 at the Marianas High School gym on Thursday.
The first set was filled with back-and-forth action as both teams seemed evenly matched.
But in the last few possessions, thanks to the errors made by FMS II, SIS II thrived and ran away with the first win, 21-18.
In the second set, FMS II reassessed their approach and adjusted accordingly. With safer returns and fewer errors, paired with a handful of strong finishes, FMS II quickly established dominance as SIS II failed to recover defensively and eventually had to bow down, 12-21, forcing a third and final set.
FMS II rode the momentum into the third set. SIS II fought back with all their might, but they also continued to commit errors that allowed FMS II to secure the win, 15-9.
FMS II’s roster consisted of Robert Villagomez, Timothy Espiritu, Peter Santos, Jean-Paul Reyes, Dann Ciano, Vince Eusebio, Jhon Dilao, Jake Peredo and Savage Smith.
Also clinching victories on Thursday were Chacha Oceanview Middle School II, which bested Dandan Middle School II, 21-15, 21-15; and Tanapag Middle School II, which outplayed Hopwood Middle School II, 21-12, 21-14.
