Since early last week their mission was to install additional bleachers with roofing, Table/Officials booth, re-paint the court to give it a brand new glossy look for the fans, tourists, and players.
Saipan Mayor Donald Flores was full support of the project for he believed in giving back to the community. Mayor Flores waited for approval from the Liberation Day Committee to grant his request on donating excess materials such as tin roofs, and for the community project.
Department of Public Works Mr. John Deleon Guererro helped out by installing new lightings, repairs of the existing lightings, and relocating outlets for the use of the equipments early last week.
Marianas Variety learned yesterday through email that the president of the QQ Basketball League, President James Han, and his committee have already transported the score booths priced at $1000.00 for the its metal structure.
They also donate paint, and brand new light bulbs for the court.
The involved Basketball League Organizers and officials have also finished painting the court yesterday late into the afternoon.
The last thing that they need to finish up is the installation of the roofs over the bleachers for the spectators. The committee is waiting for the go sign from Mayor Donald Flores.
“Tourist in the heart of Garapan has made the Garapan Basketball Court as their second stop to enjoy local basketball events in the area. When this project is complete our tourists, fans, officials will not have to scramble for shelter to prevent being soaked or wet during rainy seasons. This is worth an investment for tourists, youth programs, adults, and our community as a whole.” said Mr. Ray Lizama in an email.
Mr. Lizama is kindly asking DPS personnel to please assist the community by shutting off the lights of the court at night when it is not being used. This will help on cost cutting for the power bill and buying light bulbs constantly.
Special shout outs are also going out to the G-Rollers youth program for helping the committee out with the renovations of the court.
