Geckos, Tsunamis jump to finals

The SIS Geckos played game one against the Marianas Baptist Academy Stormz, finishing them off in the second set by 25-23.

Progressing to the finals wasn’t easy for team SIS, who endured forceful spikes from MBA’s Philip Yoon. Behind by two points, the Geckos needed to tie the game before the Stormz reached their game point. A quick set and spike from two Gecko attackers took the Stormz out 25-15 during the first set.

The afternoon heated up as the SCS Tsunamis challenged team Whispering Palms School in game two, fending them off in the third set 15-11.

Earlier in the match, the Tsunamis struck by powerful passes from WPS’ Gabrielle Race and Aaron Lee. The game surpassed the second set when WPS’ Danny Auther saved his team with a dive, beating team SCS 25-18.

The Tsunamis had the upper hand at the start, edging team WPS in the first set. Tsunamis’ key player Jehn Joyner used his height to spike the ball, which was returned by Race. Negahr Rastguiy later assisted Race with a pass, saving WPS a point. Both teams reached a deadlock when Auther and Minori Yoshida scored a kill. The Tsunamis turned the game around however, leaving team WPS behind by two points.

In addition to the Tsunami and Geckos’ finals match, a consolation game will be played between MBA and WPS, who will be fighting for third place. The loser between SCS and SIS will automatically earn second place in the tournament.
