Girls’ basketball ready for kick off

This year, September to November (with the month of September being the allotted pre-season month with competition starting in October) will be the designated months for both the girls’ junior varsity and varsity teams for basketball , the boys’ varsity volleyball, boys’ varsity baseball, and co-ed varsity cross country.

As early as today, the Marianas High School coaches are drafting willing athletes in good standing academically, to try out for the teams. It is a great way to stay fit and healthy for the rest of the school year.

Students, who are interested in joining, please see the appointed coaches per sporting event. For more information, please approach the main office or the student services office.

As of the calendar event for the rest of the year, December to February (with the month of December being the scheduled pre-season month with competition starting in January) will be the appropriated months for the boys’ junior varsity and varsity basketball leagues, along with the girls’ varsity volleyball and soccer.

During March to May (with the month of March being the designated pre-season month with competition starting in April) will be the assigned for the girls’ varsity fast pitch softball, boys’ varsity soccer, co-ed varsity track and field, co-ed varsity outrigger canoe, and co-ed varsity golf leagues.

Each competitor must have their waivers signed and physical results at the ready to turn in to the coach. Each competitor must also be in good standing academically (for more information on where you stand approach your designated counselor and then the designated coach for the sporting event).

In a meeting conducted by the committee members for the girl’s basketball tournament of the Marianas Interscholastic sports organization it has been decided upon that the time used for the up coming season will be as follows: Jr. Varsity season will consist of 4 quarters of 8 minutes with a running clock. Varsity season will consist of 4 quarters of 10 minutes with stop clock. Varsity tournament will have the same format.

The format of the tournament will be double elimination with THS receiving the #3 seed. A roster for each team is due on November 15, 2010 before 5pm; if no roster is submitted by deadline the roster from the last game played in the season will be used.

Varsity will benefit from the unlimited roster and is allowed to dress 12 for games, but must submit roster to table officials each game.

Jr. Varsity will also benefit from the unlimited roster and is allowed to dress 15 for games, but must submit roster to table officials each game.
