The 2017 Pacific Mini Games Bid Committee is still formulating plans to present the CNMI bid package for the 2017 Pacific Mini Games. A site visit by the Pacific Games Council President Vidhya Lakhan and the Executive Director Andrew Minogue will be scheduled for June or July, 2011 with the exact date of the visit still pending.
In regards to the 2011 University Games in Shenzhen, China NMASA is asking for financial assistance from the Oceania Zone and the University Games. The CNMI will be represented by Rezne Wong and Matthew Mancao accompanied by NMASA President Michael White.
President White also reported that the bids for the construction of improvements to the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium have been submitted as well. The improvements to the Ada gym are being funded by the Northern Mariana Islands Housing Corporation (NMHC) through Community Development Block Grants.
NMHC is now aware that the NMASA has control of the Ada Gymnasium. For practical reasons, NMASA is allowing the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, Division of Sports and Recreation to take the lead with the improvements at the Ada Gymnasium.
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has reviewed the specifications for the proposed bleachers and flooring material. The FIBA Study Center stated that the flooring specifications seem satisfactory. FIBA floor marking specifications for basketball and volleyball are simple to meet and should not be a problem.
