High school Rocball in full blast

The Kingz – as this season’s defending champions – were off to a good start, winning their first two games and tied for first place with Fly High. With one win and one loss each, the Chiefs, Krowners, and Underdogs are tied for second place. Watch Ur Face is in third place with two losses and no wins.

In their first game, the Kingz ‘juiced out’ the Chiefs in three sets, 46-39. Kingz Utalap Billy was the game’s heavy hitter with two aces, one xunk, and four kees for 14 points. In their second game, Watch Ur Face stunned the Kingz by winning the third set, preventing them from ‘juicing out’ and forced the game into overtime. The Kingz conquered Watch Ur Face and won in the first overtime set, 7-2. Kingz’ Jason Laniyo was the game’s heavy hitter with five kees and two goals for 16 points.

Team Fly High remains a top contender after crushing the Underdogs 39-30 and beating the Krowners 49-15 to juice out in three sets. The Fly Highs’ heavy hitters were A.J. Aguilar and Ryan Ichihara.

In a following game, the Krowners won the first set, 17-15 over the Chiefs. The Chiefs returned in set two with a 17-8 win that placed them ahead, 32-25 over all. In the third set, the Chiefs played with good serves and capitalized on the Krowners’ penalty serves to finish 17-10 in the third set.

It took two overtime sets to determine a winner between the Underdogs and Watch Ur Face. The latter won the first two sets 17-13 and 16-13. The Underdogs however, prevented their foes from taking the third set and almost scored enough points to win the game. Watch Ur Face won, 43-42.

In Rocball however, a team cannot ‘juice out’ (win a game) in a losing set regardless of game points. Because Watch Ur Face scored more points after three sets, they only needed to win one overtime set to claim the game. The game’s heavy hitter was Watch Ur Face’s John Santy with three aces, one xunk, one kee, and one goal for 13 points.

All high school Rocball games are played at the Marianas High School Gymnasium during lunch break from 12:50 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
