With six wins and four losses, the Eagles soared past Kagman High School (four wins, six losses) in the regular season rankings. GCA swept the Dolphins first, beating them, 25-21 in a close first set. MHS 1 couldn’t recover and lost again, 25-18 in the second set and 15-12 in the third. The Dolphins now have seven wins and two losses.
The Manta Rays fell next, coming short eight points in the first set. Grace Christian Academy won 25-17 and 25-15 in the first two sets. Saipan Southern High’s defense faced serve after serve from GCA’s Michi Tenorio and Crysta Cristobal before losing 15-3 in the final set.
The Eagles also include: Darlene Barcelon, Christine Cristobal, Colleen Kinsella, Krisvel Eugenio, Maria Allora Esmero, Kristen Pangilinan, Aira Batallones, Julie Muna, and Rinel Chargualaf.
The Mantas also lost to Saipan International School 25-19, 25-19, and 15-4. The unbeaten Geckos – who now have nine wins – must take on MHS 1 today to keep their perfect record.
In another game, the Ayuyus crushed MHS 2 25-18, 25-7, and 15-8 in sets one to three. MHS 2, which has yet to win a game, will face the Mantas today.
The Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization will host an end-of-the-season girls’ volleyball tournament on Feb. 18, 2 p.m., and Feb. 19, 9 a.m. Teams will play in a double elimination, best-of-three format. Tinian will compete this year, according to MISO’s Glenn Smith.
