Tied at 90-90 with the Cavites handling the ball in the fourth quarter, the Island Apparels had no choice but to stall time and go into overtime. With eight seconds left on the clock, all players scrambled for the ball after a missed shot from the Cavites.
Island Apparels’ key players Marlon Sison, Manuel Matagolai, and Robert Guiang were sent to the court during overtime, accompanied by Rolly Paraiso and Rex Yabut.
Francis Rebuyon led the Cavites at first, shooting three lay ups and an extra free throw.
Sison brightened the night with his successive three-pointers, contributing six points during overtime. Manuel Matagolai provided another three-pointer with two extra points from his free throws.
Island Apparels’ Marlon Cabrera and Conrad Sablan had spare time to land a couple baskets after gaining their lead on the Cavites.
A slight altercation between the teams occurred when Paraiso was hit in the face while making a lay up.
Matagolai led the game with a total score of 26 points.
Ebisuya pounds Monster, 82-80
THE MAFEA – Ebisuyas made a firm comeback after topping the MDX – PTC/Monsters by a mere two points during their 8th Unified Filipino Organization Inter-Government Basketball League game last Tuesday at the JP Center basketball court.
Francis Rebuyon led the Ebisuya’s offensive with his quick lay ups, racking 13 points during the third quarter. Among several of his shots was an undefended three-pointer which caught the Monsters off guard. Rebuyon’s two-pointers in the second quarter proved critical for the Ebisuyas, who finally gained their lead during the second half.
Monster’s George De Guzman, who hammered an easy 17 points in the first quarter, had trouble getting through the Ebisuya’s defense near the end of the game. After leading in the first half, the Monsters slowly lost control of the court and gave way for the Ebisuyas to knock off extra shots.
It was only a matter of how many shots Rebuyon could pull off before the time ran out. He and fellow player Banjo Basilla rushed a couple baskets to avoid overtime.
Francis Rebuyon’s swift baskets earned him the highest score with 36 points, followed by De Guzman with 31 points.
