Its is called Island Jams Basketball conducted by Biblical Ministries of Palau or BMP headed by John Zimmer, Jon Clapp, and Jim Towberman is an outreach Christian program for the youths around the island is a series of basketball tournaments played as 4 on 4. The tournaments provide an opportunity for players to play and learn about basketball and also qualities of life, especially relating to the word of God.
Started in 2006 in Ngerbodeland since then, they have held 12 tournaments in 5 locations namely Ngerbodel, Ngiwal, Ngaremlengui, Ngermid and Aimelik.Some 700 players have participated to date ranging from ages 8 – 18 years. While players contribute $1.00 they have also received an Island Jams T-shirt, prizes and food.
And this year, so far BMP had a tournament on July 3rd at Ngerbodel with 16 teams, and a tournament on July 10 at Ngiwal with 12 teams. Their last tournament for 2010 will be on July 24th at Ngermid.
With these, BMP-All Stars then announces that starting Monday 19th and continuing until Friday 23rd they will be conducting skills clinics in the following Koror State Hamlets for ages will be for 8 – 18 years for boys and girls at no cost to players to attend such clinics. The clinic starts 10.00am and end at 12.30pm. Their schedule of visiting hamlets are as follows; Ngermid on Monday, Ngerbeched will Tuesday, Airai on Wednesday, Echang will be Thursday, and Ngerchemai reserves Friday.
On the same note, Palau Basketball Federation also announces that they will give away basketball shoes contributed by the Australian basketball club to deserving individuals during the clinics.
