ISLANDER Rent A Car is off to a strong start in the Destroyers Basketball Club Invitational Basketball League after trouncing  the Underground, 89-78, at the TSL Sports Complex on Sunday.

Islander displayed unselfishness by utilizing each player on the court. Frank Ferrer ignited the run by sinking a midrange jumper for the first bucket of the game while team-mates Jonathan Broncano, Albert Agustin and Benedict Villacero chipped in their fair share to give  Islander a slight advantage.

The Underground, for their part, relied on the craftiness of Randel Nicodemus. His ability to finish at the rim, along with an extended range, was more than enough to carry his team as he racked up 21 points. However, Islander’s teamwork was enough to maintain the upper hand, 40-34.

The intense exchange continued throughout the second half.

This time, the Underground’s bench started to put in the work as Ricky Taraya, Vincent Lumen and Jan Lontoc found their confidence from beyond the arc with several triples.

Despite the Underground’s persistence, Islander still controlled the pace.

Islander’s Ferrer picked up where he left off with his own series of three-pointers alongside Webb Gontar and Albert Agustin while Jose Broncano took care of the inside work to lead their team to victory, 89-78.

Joining the winner’s circle were Star Water, which triumphed over Triskelion, 60-48; Yuman, which routed the Saipan Tigers, 115-60; and Save More, which outlasted Jacob’s Bakeshop, 89-71.
