Saipan finished third in the Large Ball Team Round-Robin competition with a score of 3-2, win-lose record.
The members of the Saipan team were Budhi Gurung, Jean Shi, and Su Yong Dong.
Japan 2 won the gold medal after crafting five wins and zero lose.
The members of Japan 2 include Sumio Yamamoto, Hisamitsu Hamamoto, and Kimiko Koike.
Japan 1 landed on second place (silver medal) with 4-1 win-lose ticket.
The 10-time champion of Japan in the large ball match, Hiroyuki Abe, was a member of Japan 1. His teammates were Mitsuko Yamaguchi and Terumi Morino.
Saipan’s Gurung won in the Regular Ball Doubles Round-Robin competition with Charlie Cheng from Tinian.
Gurung and Cheng’s team finished with two wins and two losses.
Tinian’s Liang Wei Bin and Ma Zheng were awarded gold medal (4-0), while fellow Tinian delegates, Robin Lu and Luke Lu (3-1), were handed the silver medal.
Zheng, Luke Lu, and Cheng won the gold, silver, and bronze medals in the Individuals Standings.
Zheng won a tie-breaker match with Lu.
The 10th Marianas Friendship Table Tennis Cup & 1st Large Ball Tournament used large ball (44mm) and regular ball (40mm).
The event is held bi-annually – once on Saipan, and once on Tinian.
