JOE Sablan Jr. emerged from a three-way tie to clinch the Amigos Golf Club’s May Ace of the Month title at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort on Sunday.
Sablan played exceptionally well throughout the two-day tournament.
During the qualifying round on May 4, Sablan shot a gross of 86 and, with a handicap of 10, notched a net score of 76.
During the ace round on Sunday, May 18, he completed the course with a gross score of 82, giving him a net 72 and a two-day net total of 148.
However, two other players — Jay Muna and Manny Tenorio — also finished with a net total of 148, triggering a scorecard playoff.
On hole #7 (par 3), Muna scored a double bogey, while Tenorio and Sablan carded bogeys. The playoff then moved to the next hardest handicap hole, #11, where Tenorio bogeyed and Sablan made par — securing him the May Ace of the Month title.
In the optional play, the par-3 winners were Jay Muna (hole #4), Frank Ermitanio (hole #6), Joe Sablan Jr. (hole #11), and Sixtus Aquino (hole #15). Each hole carried a prize of $140.
