Kabiriel gearing up for Guam’s Ko’Ko’ race

Kabiriel is among the five athletes from CNMI who will participate in the half-marathon that will kick off at the Gov. Joseph Flores Memorial Park in Tumon on Oct. 18.

The female Saipan athlete who will join them is Mamiko Berger.

Kabiriel said over 500 athletes from many countries have already signed up for the event.

The winners of the 13.2-kilo meter run will bring home up to $1,000 in cash prizes.

With the help of Joshua Berger, Kabiriel said he was informed last week that he qualified for the event which he will join for the first time.

Kabiriel said he is aiming to hit the top five places that is why even after his feat in Australia last month, he kept flexing his muscles to prepare himself for this event.

After leading the Powerade half-marathon in Banzai earlier this month, Kabiriel continued his practice six days a week.

“I’m trying all the best to prepare myself and make it to the top five,” says Kabiriel who will be competing in the individual race category.

Kabiriel finished first in the 13-kilometer run to retain his title in Powerade Banzai Half Marathon. He won a gold medal in Gold Coast, Australia.

Last year, Kabiriel was also the first runner to emerge from the Tagan-tagan trail, finishing it in 1:30 minutes and topped the 3rd Banzai half-marathon.

He returned to Banzai Cliff 45 seconds ahead of his fellow Gold Coast winner, Matthew Mancao who finished in 1:36.54.
