THE Kanoa Football Club celebrated twice as hard on Saturday, winning the U17 girls and boys division titles of the TakeCare Youth Soccer League Fall 2024 after defeating their respective opponents in the championship matches at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

In the U17 girls division, Kanoa outclassed the MP United Football Club, 4-0, to claim the title.

The action quickly intensified in the first 30 minutes of the match, but neither team was able to gain the advantage. Kanoa performed well, controlling most of the possession and attempting several shots along the way.

Although mostly at the receiving end, MPU matched Kanoa’s offense with strong defensive coverage. MPU also had their fair share offensively, but it was to no avail.

Kanoa’s persistence eventually overwhelmed MPU. At the 35th minute mark, Elikristiana Iglecias scored to give her team the lead going into halftime, 1-0.

With momentum on their side, Kanao reinforced their advantage early in the second half with three more goals. Aubrey White highlighted the offensive run with back-to-back goals at the 44th and 56th minute marks while Ye Lynn Ha followed with the team’s fourth goal two minutes later for a 4-0 lead.

MPU failed to break the silence but made several attempts before accepting defeat as Kanoa claimed the U17 girls’ division championship.

Sharing the Golden Boot Award were Kanoa’s Beatrice Gross and Ye Lynn Ha with 17 goals each.

Finishing third in the overall team standings was the Paire Football Club following Shirley’s Football Club’s forfeit of the match.

Boys division

Kanoa also claimed the U17 boys division title by besting MPU, 2-1.

In the opening minutes of the first half, Kanoa managed to work their way deep within enemy territory where they broke through the defensive lines led by Taiga Namai-Scoggins, who found the back of the net to give his team the lead, 1-0.

MPU prevented more goals from slipping through but failed to equalize on offense.

In the second half, Kanoa’s Namai-Scoggins connected his second goal at the 40th minute mark.

MPU went down fighting, with Casey Chambers mustering enough strength to score in the 76th minute before bowing to Kanoa, 1-2.

Sharing the Golden Boot Award were Jayvin Bisek of Matansa Football Club and Paul Lizama of Kanoa Football Club. Each scored 13 goals this season.

In overall third place was the Matansa Football Club, which shut down the Women’s Development Team, 7-0.
