Keith Santos, Chris Sanchez named finals MVPs; others receive individual awards

KEITH Santos and Chris Sanchez, who showcased their best performance in the title games of the 2023 Saipan Magalahi Eagles Club Invitational Basketball League, were named the finals MVPs.

 Santos and Sanchez carried their teams with 15 and 20 points, respectively, to help bring Checkpoint and the A Plus Team to the top of the tournament’s open and masters divisions. 

Santos also had a handful of assists and contributed to his team’s  defense in the championship game against the then-undefeated Easy Riders.

Santos was likewise named to the Mythical Five along with Cris Diwa, JR Galang, Coby Santos and Mel Manibusan. 

JR Galang, for his part, took home the Season MVP Award while Checkpoint’s Erwin Lumanlan was named Best Coach. 

The Sportsmanship Award went to Homesmart Team and IT&E, while The Game-Eats Easy and the CK Saints claimed overall third and fourth places, respectively. 

Masters division

In the masters division, Chris Sanchez of A Plus Team displayed his all-around skills on both ends of the court during the championship match to win the Finals MVP award. 

Joining him in the spotlight was his teammate, Andrew “Uncle Drew” Ashburn, whose stellar performance throughout the tournament earned him the Season MVP Award.

He was also named to the Mythical Five alongside JR Barriors, Dick Tibayan, Joel Javier, and Cecilio Bisana.

The A Plus Team’s Edong Echavez was named Best Coach. 

The Sportsmanship Award went to Win Pacific Team while JSN Construction and The Legends finished overall third and fourth places, respectively.
