THE Kagman High School Ayuyus emerged victorious in their debut game against Saipan Southern High School’s Junior Varsity team, 31-12, in the girls high school division of the PSS-NMIBF Interscholastic Basketball League SY24-25 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium on Friday.
The Ayuyus were simply unmatched in skill as they played comfortably throughout the game.
In the first half, they quickly established control with Naveah Camacho scoring the first bucket followed by two consecutive shots by Jayden Pangelinan.
SSHS JV struggled to find an opening due to KHS’ continuous harassment on the defensive end.
SSHS JV’s Makaenna Nashimura put up six points, but without support, the team continued to fall behind while KHS’ Kaitani Tudela, Irievana Hurst, and Janika Ogo chipped in their fair share to push a nine-point lead, 15-6.
In the second half, the rest of the SSHS JV players started to gain confidence with Althea Bocago and Jaenna Lanivo joining Nishimura on offense, but they were simply outgunned.
KHS’ Bethanie Delos Santos heated up and ignited the team’s run with the first bucket and added two more in the final few possessions while Lena Ngiraked also delivered to secure their first win of the season, 31-12.
SSHS V vs SIS
For their part, the SSHS Varsity players reigned supreme over Saipan International School, 39-8.
SSHS V’s Azzy Fatialofa was a force to be reckoned with as she dominated the inside game with 12 points in the first half while teammates Shaenna Yamada and Phoenix Gross kept the fuel burning throughout the second half to ease past SIS.
Joining the winner’s circle were the Mount Carmel School Knights, who dominated Marianas High School JV, 31-3.
