Lady Ayuyus end 3-game slump vs. Geckos

A huge turnaround in the second half catapulted Kagman High School ahead, 32-23 against Saipan International School in the Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization’s 2011 Girls Varsity Basketball League at the MHS Gymnasium.

Patsy Jetley and Anna Ada drew 10 points apiece to post the Ayuyus’ first regular season win, allowing only three baskets from SIS in the entire second half.

The Lady Geckos stormed for the lead on a 14-point surge in the second quarter but stumbled on wild passes after halftime.

The Ayuyus outscored their foes, 10-2 in the third quarter with Tracy Pelep capped the closing 10 minutes with four of their last 12 points.

Ashley Chun and Zoe Jewell were the Geckos’ lone scorers in the first quarter while Kagman took off with eight points from Jetley and Ada.

The victory settled KHS’ loss to SIS during their previous encounter in the league’s opening game on October 4.

Jewell was once again the Geckos’ lone shooter in the third period, where she eked out a basket against Elilai Piailug and Ada. Teammate Amber Roberts, who scored six points, squeezed in a layup two minutes into the fourth quarter. Jewell scored SIS’ final point on a free throw.

Jetley, Ada, Piailug, and Janet Kaipat aided Kagman’s rally with two points each before the final buzzer.

The Lady Geckos still couldn’t withstand KHS’ late-game offense despite Piailug and Jemma Lara’s ejection on excessive fouls.
