Lady Dolphins crowned champions

The Lady Dolphins prepared and practiced almost everyday for this one moment in time and all of their hard work had paid off.

Jamie Mendoza, a member of the first five on to the court, scored 6 points swiftly throughout the first quarter followed by teammates Lia Rangamar and Ira Palero each bucketing 4 points respectively.

The lone star Mercedes Mesa of the lady Ayuyus was only able to breach past MHS’ defense line twice for a downtown shot reinforced by a jump shot. It was complete silence for the lady Ayuyus after Mesa’s remarkable feat.

By the end of the first quarter the lady Dolphins were leading by 14 points, 19-5.

The lady Dolphins did not once show tiredness or fatigue throughout the game. Upon entering the second quarter, Lia Rangamar readily shoed her basketball talents and fended off another 6 point for the lady Dolphins while teammates Palero and Jeralyn Castillo each scored 4 points a piece.

The Lady Ayuyus refused to go down without a fight. Patsylynn Jetly was able to score 6 points for the lady Ayuyus while teammate Mesa contributed her four pence.

By half time the lady Dolphins were able to balloon the lead to 22 points, 39-17.

It was a long silence for both teams upon entering the second half of the bout. Eventually Rangamar was able to break the silence and score 4 points for the team while encouraging her teammates to assemble a strong defense barricade against the Ayuyus.

KHS was only able to score a total of 5 points in the third quarter. The lead was then stretched to 31 points, 53-22.

It all came down to the final ten minutes of the championship game. The lady Ayuyus were not only against the ropes but also against time. They pulled of a great offensive tactic in the first 5 minutes of the game. Tiana Muna scored 6 points while teammate Ana Ada contributed her two pence.

It was history for team KHS. The lady Dolphins pulled a total of 17 points to secure their win heralding them worthy champions for the 2010-2011 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organizations’ Girls Basketball League.
