The course will contain an 8.5 mile trail from Pau Pau Beach to Banzai Memorial and back. Registration will start at 6:15 am and the race will start at 7 am. Participants must bring their own partners as they are not guaranteed a teammate.
The Leapfrog Race will consist of a two person team that alternates between the bike and run leg portion of the race. “Everyone starts the race at the same time. From the starting point, one teammate rides ahead and leaves the bike at a designated exchange point and begins running,” said SASC’s Lewie Tenorio as he describes the Leapfrog Race in an email. “The partner runs to the bike and then rides past (leapfrogs) their partner and drops the bike at the next exchange point. This process is repeated and the team that completes the course first wins the race.”
The course will contain a total of nine exchange points.
“For this race and because of the designated exchange points, it is recommended that you pick a partner that closely matches your ability in both hiking and running. Because both team members will be riding the same bike for the full course, both must fit the bike, or will be making set adjustments on every exchange resulting in lost time. Running shoes are recommended,” said Tenorio.
An entry fee of $10 will be charged for non-SASC members, and members will be charged $5. To participate in the Leapfrog Race and become an SASC member, participants must pay an entry fee of $15.
