Level 2 Coaching course comes to a close

Aside from learning more about principles of offence and defence on the first weeks of the training / workshop, coaches was also presented with information on how to develop players through the performance enhancement programs specifically through “periodisation” of training. Training that includes the full understanding of the bio-mechanics of the body, how to handle injuries, proper fitness / conditioning program for developing players, strength and resistance program, the importance of recovery in training. In addition coaches were also given tips on how to properly scout / analyze teams with regards to their strengths and weaknesses as well as the ability to prepare for a game against an opposing team and be able to prepare suitable practice session plans to achieve a goal.

Completing the curriculum, next step for coaches to be fully certified as level 2 coach is to put into practice what they have learned in theory by applying it in the next basketball competitions. Coaches are asked to provide reports on their training, conditioning, copy of practice sessions programs to NDC by the end of NBL or WNBL season. In addition to this, coaches are to be observed and evaluated in game situations during the leagues and if such coach is competent enough, he or she will be then awarded with a Level 2 Coaching Certificate and be placed on the active list of level 2 Coaches under Basketball Palau’s National Accreditation Scheme or NAS.
