Stayin’ Alive and Smashin’ Cancer: Team Boogie raises $6k in pickleball drive

(Press Release) — We are Team Boogie “Stayin’ Alive,” a small group of volunteers who came together for the sole purpose of supporting the Commonwealth Cancer Association. Our team’s name is in honor of not only those who are still fighting the battle against cancer, but also those who have passed and whose memory we continue to keep alive to this day.

We are firm believers of putting the “fun” in “fundraising” for a good cause. Beginning with the Marianas March Against Cancer last year, we held multiple events — Movie Night, Country Breakfast and Yard Sale, Pet Therapy, Zumba, Spare Change — to raise funds for the CCA. With the CCA’s new fundraising campaign, “Mission: Possible,” we were set on keeping the boogie-spirit alive.

That is why this year, Team Boogie “Stayin’ Alive” hosted a Pickleball Tournament — Smash Cancer “Pickleball Fundraiser” Paddle for the Battle, an exciting event where fun meets purpose. The event took place on multiple dates — Nov. 7-9/ Nov. 14-16/ Nov. 20-23 — for three weekends of the month from about 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the American Memorial Park tennis courts. More than just a fundraiser, this was a celebration of strength through community. A chance for our community to come together, serve hope, smash out barriers, and rally for survivors and those who are fighting the Battle.

Team Boogie had a total of 136 participants throughout the event and received a tremendous amount of support from the community, especially from the pickleball family! We appreciate all the players who came out to serve up support and smash for a cause — such as our Saipan Pickleball Association, the 670 Saipan Pickleball community, and especially for our Guam and Tinian players who flew over and supported.

We were able to raise a total of $6,192.51 through SMASH CANCER “Paddle for the Battle.” All proceeds will be given to the CCA to help those in our community whose lives have been affected by cancer. Our cause is a worthy one for our friends and families affected by cancer.

We would also like to thank all our sponsors, donors, and generous supporters for all their help. Without them, the chance to hold the tournament would have been lost. But with them, the “Paddle for the Battle” felt like a battle well won.

Once again, Team Boogie “Stayin’ Alive” sends lots of love and appreciation to all those who have joined us on this journey. Please check out our socials for any future fun fundraising activities for the CCA!
