Lopez downed Adele Hudkins, 6-0, 6-2 to reach the finals round. From there, she took on Whispering Palms School student Negahr Rastguiy and won again, 6-0, 6-2 to cap the tournament.
Prior to her loss, Rastguiy dominated, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to beat Melody Johnson. Johnson settled for third place with an 8-4 win over Hudkins.
Lopez paired with Johnson to top a four-team round robin pool in the girls 18U doubles category. Both junior netters bagged their third and final victory over Thea and Theecel Minor (2-6, 6-0, 6-1) on Sunday morning. The Lopez-Johnson duo outran Amy Arenovski and Jazmin Rayphand last Saturday and Tammy Ackerman and Rastguiy (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) last week Sunday.
The Minor sisters took third place at a win-loss record of 2-1, beating Arenovski and Rayphand, 6-0, 6-1 and Ackerman and Rastguiy, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Thea bags girls 18U singles title
Thea Minor took the spotlight after winning, 6-4, 6-1 over Mikayla Lopez in the girls 18U singles division’s finals round.
Lopez defeated Thea’s sister, Theecel Minor, 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 in the semis and Melody Johnson, 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
Thea clinched her finals ticket with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 win against Amy Arenovski.
Theecel crushed Arenovski, 6-1, 6-0 to take third place last Sunday.
