“I’ve registered to join the Olympic Distance Triathlon,” Sitchon told Variety in an e-mail.
The event involves 1.5-kilometer swimming, 40-kilometer biking, and 10-kilometer running.
However the triathlon will also include sprint triathlon (such as a 750-meter swim, a 20-km bike, and a 5-km run), relay triathlon, and bike categories.
“I decided to participate in this race instead of going to the Xterra World Championship triathlon in Maui, Hawaii,” he said.
The X-terra World Championship will be held in October this year.
He hopes to finish the race without suffering any injury in the process “and with a decent time” under his name.
It is said that L.A is now in full swing in preparation for the sports event.
He said he will be off-island for one week as he compete in the L.A. Triathlon.
Sitchon expressed appreciation to everybody who helped him raise the needed funds for him to join in the sports event.
He said that the amount of money he was able to draw from his fundraising activity which he coined, “Manny to Maui Bike Race,” is not sufficient to answer for his hotel accommodation in Hawaii.
“I was not expecting that I will have to spend a large sum of money during my stay in Maui, Hawaii,” he said. “I just want to thank those who supported me…”
Earlier, Sitchon organized a fundraising activity for his planned X-Terra World Championship in Hawaii.
The World Championship is limited to top 500 qualified triathletes from different X-terra triathlon races all over the U.S., its territories, and other countries.
He won in the 52 to 55 age division of the 7th X-terra Saipan Championship held at the American Memorial Park last March 8.
