The game heated up in the fourth quarter, when the Marianas Wireless struggled to maintain their 9-point lead ahead of the Wings Travels.
Wings Travel’s Ron Gamboa and Joy Dayrit successfully landed a three-pointer, easily boosting their team by 6 points.
Marianas Wireless’ Glenn Aquino retaliated with a fierce offense, marking a couple lay-ups followed by two pointers from Wowie Abuel and Jhon Pantaleon.
Wings Travel’s Joy Dayrit pushed the extra mile with a final six points for his team, but didn’t get enough time to catch up to the Marianas Wireless. The Wings Travels’ lack of momentum in the early game eventually caused them to lag behind.
The Marianas Wireless owed their victory to their steady offense since the first quarter.
MBI Right Guard suffers first loss
After winning three consecutive games, the MBI Right Guards suffered their first defeat in the hands of the Oche’s during the Emon Lodge No. 179 Basketball Tournament’s fifth game last Sunday at Ada Gym.
The Right Guards were very surprised to witness the outcome of the game, which resulted in 69-76. With a strong offensive line-up consisting of team captain Darwin Barbo and Ivan De Vero, the Right Guards easily secured their lead in the first half of the game. They scored 22-8 in the first quarter and 39-32 in the second.
The Oche’s pulled an outstanding breakthrough in the third quarter, where they caught up behind the Right Guards by a mere point. Oches’ Jr. Barios started with the first six points for his team plus an undefended three-pointer. Barios later piled the most shots in the game, earning a total of 25 points.
By the fourth quarter, Oche’s Marlon Sison was also able to land another three-pointer, giving his team leverage against the Right Guards.
With few extra free throws from Sison and Mike Ulaytiman, the Oche’s were able to come out on top.
