Marlins first baseman Shine Tenorio gets ready for a pick-off opportunity during a game of the 2024 SBL Masters League at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.

IN a battle between sea and air, the Marlins outlasted the Falcons, 15-13, in a 2024 SBL Masters League game at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Monday.

The Marlins’ hits came in early.

First at bat, Walter Macaranas caused chaos in the infield as his walk turned into a steal at second base. He was then brought home by John Terlaje, who earned an RBI triple.

The Marlins continued swinging with Ray Ranguul bringing home Terlaje with an RBI single, which was followed by two more runs for    a 5-0 lead.

The Falcons fought back but could score two runs only after two innings. The Marlins added two more runs in the top of the third, but the Falcons continued to put up a fight, scoring two runs in the bottom half to stay within reach, 4-7.

In the fourth inning, the Falcons’ efforts finally paid off. They quickly disposed of the Marlins in the top half with three consecutive outs, then scored four runs, highlighted by Mario Aguon’s two-RBI single, to snatch the lead, 8-7.

The seesaw battle continued as both teams added three runs each in the fifth inning with the Falcons slightly ahead. The Marlins, for their part, kept their momentum flowing throughout the sixth with three more runs to regain control, 13-11.

But the game was not over as the Falcons kept their heads high and notched two runs in the bottom of the seventh, forcing an extra inning to be played.

The Marlins’ Aaron Benavente and Pat Deleon Guerrero sacrificed outs to bring in two runs and retain the advantage. They then sealed the deal with three straight outs in the bottom half to triumph, 15-13.
