THE Marlins have risen above sea level in the 2024 SBL Masters League as they acquired their second win of the season by beating the Blue Jays, 17-14, at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Tuesday.

The Marlins came out swinging as Ray Renguul, Aaron Benavente, and Eric Tudela brought in the first three batters and earned RBI singles along the way.

The scoring threat continued as more hits followed, but the Blue Jays picked off a runner at third base, ending the top half of the first inning and transitioning to the bottom.

Although the Blue Jays failed to score, they were able to make it up with a strong defensive performance as they kept the Marlins silent in the top of the second.

The Blue Jays then carried the momentum over to the batter’s box as they cooked up a four-run rally led by Jay Sablan, Shawn Matsutaro, and Justin Reyes with an RBI single each to grasp the lead, 4-3.

The Marlins managed to recover in the top of the third inning, capitalizing on the Blue Jays’ errors and scoring seven runs to regain control.

However, the Blue Jays returned the favor in the bottom half with seven runs of their own to lead once again, 11-10.

In the fourth inning, the Blue Jays attempted to extend the deficit as they restrained the Marlins from scoring while adding two runs in the bottom half.

The Marlins retaliated with three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth while allowing only one run to slip by in the bottom half to reestablish the upper hand, 16-14.

The Marlins scored just one run in the top of the seventh inning, but it was enough to seal the deal, 17-14, as the Blue Jays managed only two hits before being handed three outs.
