MARPAC has yet to be beaten in the 2023 R&J Wine and Liquor Inter-Government/Business League, bagging their fourth consecutive win by defeating CUC, 77-67, Tuesday at the Ada gym.

Both teams  filled the first five minutes of the opening quarter with several lead exchanges. But as Marpac started to get a feel for the ball, more of its shots started to find the bottom of the net. Marpac was led by Jeff Castro and Ricky Riungel, who scored eight points each to push a double-digit advantage, 22-13.

CUC was not to be counted out so easily, however, as they managed to cook up a rally in the second quarter. With each missed shot by Marpac, CUC turned trash into gold on the other end.

John Nekaifes was at the CUC frontline with his reliable perimeter jump shots while teammate Trey Aiken took care of the inside action as CUC seized control of the lead for a brief moment before Marpac recovered and held onto a slight advantage, 41-39.

In the third quarter, CUC was held to just four team points while Marpac’s Castro rained threes and Frank Mettao repeatedly scored inside to regain a double-digit lead, 64-43.

CUC gave a good fight in the final quarter with proper ball movement and defensive stops, but the margin was just too big to cover within 10 minutes and they eventually accepted defeat at the hands of Marpac, 67-77.

Priority Care vs CHCC

Priority Care trounced CHCC, 88-68.

In the first half, the two teams were evenly matched. Priority Care’s Matt Duenas and Steve King led on offense, but CHCC’s dynamic duo DJ Ong and Jack Lizama also delivered the buckets.

By halftime, Priority held a slight advantage only, 41-36.

Fatigue started to hit both teams during the second half with Duenas and Ong slowing down their productivity.

Priority Care’s King, however, took over the spotlight with 20 points to give his team a comfortable lead, 66-50.

CHCC aimed for a quick comeback with a handful of three-pointers made in the final quarter, but Priority Care sank a handful of triples of their own to remain in control and secure the win, 88-68.
