MOUNT Carmel School eased past Hopwood Middle School’s junior varsity team, 29-9, in the boys middle school division of the PSS-SBL Interscholastic Softball League SY23-24 at the Dandan baseball field on Monday, Dec. 11.
The MCS Knights came out swinging as they filled the opening inning with a several runs. All things worked in their favor as HMS JV’s pitcher struggled to find the strike zone.
HMS JV tried to get some momentum in the bottom half of the inning, but only Nester Daikychy could make an impact with a two-RBI double to cut the lead, 2-9.
HMS JV improved their performance on the defensive end as they allowed only two runs to slip by in the top of the second inning while scoring four of their own in the bottom half to again cut the deficit, 6-11.
However, MCS quickly recovered in the top of the third and unleashed a bombardment of runs highlighted by Franko Tudela’s triple while his teammates were given runs via walks en route to a convincing victory, 29-9.
DMS vs FMS
Dandan Middle School, for its part, took down Francisco M. Sablan Middle School, 13-7.
Both teams played as equals early in the game with FMS in control after completing the first inning, 2-1. However, DMS retaliated in the bottom of the second inning with Peter Camacho and Kayven Cruz contributing to a four-run rally with an RBI each to snatch the lead, 5-2.
FMS managed to stay close behind thanks to Joseph Lizama’s three-RBI triple while holding DMS to just one run in the bottom of inning to cut the deficit, 5-6.
However, DMS heated up in the next two innings with seven runs while FMS could only score two in the sixth inning before accepting defeat, 7-13.
