Mesa focused on the prevention of injuries and violations, such as traveling. Children, teens, and young adults ranging six to 25 years old shared the court with balls provided by the Koblerville Youth Learning Center.
“They must learn to play by the rules. Some players don’t understand the fundamentals of basketball. Their misunderstanding leads to fights,” said Mesa.
The clinic, which started last week Monday, focused on players and other individuals within the Koblerville area. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., participants would undergo drills headed by Mesa.
“We start with shooting free throws, then move on to dribbling and footwork,” said Mesa, who was the only instructor at the clinic.
He plans to organize other basketball clinics at Kagman and Tanapag, which will run on a quarterly basis.
Mesa hopes to motivate his participants in the sport, resulting in more interest from those who don’t normally take part in local basketball leagues.
