MATANSA and MP United football clubs continue their ascent up the U17 boys division ladder of the TakeCare Youth Soccer League Spring 2025 after earning separate wins on Saturday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
Matansa almost settled for a draw but managed to squeeze in a game-winning goal to edge Kanoa Football Club, 1-0.
Both teams played as equals, filling the first half of the match with relentless exchanges and close calls, but neither was able to break the deadlock.
There was more aggression and more shot opportunities from both teams in the second half. As the match approached the 70th minute, it seemed destined for a scoreless draw.
However, in the 73rd minute, Matansa turned defense into offense as Javen Camacho capitalized on a transition play, outmaneuvering Kanoa’s defenders and goalkeeper to score the game-winning goal.
Kanoa still had time to equalize, but Matansa focused on defense and held their ground long enough to emerge victorious.
MPU vs Shirley’s
Joining the winner’s circle was MP United Football Club, which defeated Shirley’s Football Club, 5-1.
The action picked up late in the first half as MPU took control of possession, with Chanseo Yeom and Landon Springer scoring back-to-back goals in the 39th and 40th minutes to take a 2-0 lead.
MPU carried the momentum into the second half, with Justine Lee scoring two goals in the 58th and 69th minutes, while Chanwoong Yeom added another in the 67th minute to extend the lead to 5-0.
SFC refused to go down without a fight, and their persistence was rewarded in the 79th minute when Edward Arriola III netted a goal to make it 5-1.
