Micronesian Games committee to offer 15 sports at the 2010 Games in Palau

White requested recently each sports federation on island to send in a written confirmation by each federation president or secretary-general their wish to compete in their area of sports event at the upcoming Micronesian Games.

Some of the sports events to be offered include athletics, baseball (men only), basketball micro all-around, outrigger canoe, spearfishing (men only), softball, fast pitch, swimming, table tennis, tennis, triathlon, weightlifting, beach volleyball, indoor volleyball, and wrestling.

White reminds the each federation to submit the number of male and female athletes (not coaches) whom they expect to compete.

“I will recommend to the Board of Directors that we do not participate in any sport whose federation is not a fully-paid member of NMASA, in good standing, and whose representatives do not regularly attend NMASA meetings,” White emphasized.

Accordingly, athletes in CNMI may compete provided they are ethnic Micronesians.

Other than ethnicity, athletes may compete for CNMI if they reside here, and have resided anywhere in Micronesia for at least seven years up to the start of the Games.

Athletes can compete for CNMI if they reside in the commonwealth, or have resided anywhere in Micronesia (i.e. Guam, CNMI, Palau, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Kiribati, or Nauru) for at least three years up to the start of the Games.

“I am looking forward to sending a large and successful delegation to the Games,” White said.
