Team Mobil garnered the win during the first game and handed the upset during the second game to collar the coveted award, $1000, and bragging rights as the 2011 Docomo/UBA Men’s Basketball League Champions.
It wasn’t easy for team Mobil as Konflikt was a strong force to be reckoned with giving their best game plays and bringing their sharp basketball skills in the arena as well.
Team Konflikt garnered the lead during the first quarter of the game after Ivan De Vero scored 8 points to ignite Konflik’s winning rally.
To emphasize their message and goal of winning the second game in the series teammate Bruce Berline made a rebound shot and nailed a reverse layup to seal the first quarter shut, 21-11.
Team Mobil refused to let Konflikt take siege of the game. Mobil stepped it up a notch upon entering the second quarter.
Team Captain Jhun Estolas made sure that every player on the Konflikt line-up was well aware of his presence on the arena by taking a bold shot behind the three pointer line and successfully nailing the feat.
Bon Tamayo joined in the herculean effort to repair the damage made during the first quarter by nailing a jump shot followed by a charity. With less than 20 seconds left in the second quarter, Tamayo challenged two defenders by attempting a three-point shot.
Tamayo successfully nailed a rimless basket to seal the first half of the game with team Mobil in the lead. By half time the scores were tied at 34 points all.
During the half-time intermission, the Rollers’ Manny Matagolai was presented the seasonal Most Valuable Player Award after garnering more than 200 points throughout the league. Matagolai was also presented a handsome trophy and products from NTT Docomo Pacific.
Both entered the court with renewed strength but team Mobil proved to be too strong to conquer during the second half of the bout.
Bon Tamayo collected 9 more points for Mobil while Estolas contributed his 5 points to be able to give their team the edge that it need to slice past Konflikt by three shaky points at the end of the third quarter, 53-50.
It all came down to the last quarter as Mobil rallied through the quarter brigaded by Jhun Estolas, Marvin Rabauliman, and Bon Tamayo.
Konflikt was able to steal the thunder from Mobil for a few minutes into the fourth quarter after bagging a rather difficult reverse lay-up shot, 56-55.
The crowd supporting team Mobil nearly blew the Ada gym’s roof off with their protest after a referee called a foul on a Mobil defender giving Ivan De Vero two charities followed by another foul, that sent the fans’ shouts clear to heaven, giving Kae Bernardo two charity shots as well.
Estolas kept the gap close by scoring a downtown shot followed by a rimless off the key shot to snatch the lead back, 60-59. Konflikt’s Elmer Esdrelon was forced to leave the game six minutes into the last quarter due to an unbearable cramping on his right calf muscle.
It was all over for team Konflikt as Mobil gave it their last bit of power in the last two minutes of the game.
Mobil’s Jorge De Guzman was being blocked by three Konflikt defenders leaving the key area widely open where Tamayo sliced through receiving the assist from De Guzman for a quick layup shot to ensure Mobil’s success sending the fans to their feet.
Within the last minute Tamayo was able to steal the ball from the Konflikt’s side of the court to make a quick pass to the waiting Estolas to nail game two of the best-of-three series and to bag the coveted 2011 Docomo Pacific/UBA Men’s Basketball League Championship trophy under their belts, 71-64.
