More sponsors, players join in Women’s Futsal League

Laura L. Williams, press relations officer of NMIFA, said several sponsors have generously donated funds for uniforms and equipment for the league.

“New team sponsors this season are AON Insurance, Hardt Eye Clinic, Marianas Medical Center, and Marine Tech International,” Williams announced, adding that teams will take on the names of the sponsors as soon as their uniforms are ready.

In a previous interview with Lindsey Davis, NMIFA Women’s Committee chairwoman, said Wildbills bar & grill and Matt Smith law office, are the sponsors they were able to bring in so far.

Accordingly, Wildbills and Smith law office are long time supporters of CNMI football.

“We’re working on some other sponsors for the league,” Davis said in a past interview.

“The NMIFA Women’s Committee would like to thank these businesses for contributing and helping to promote girls and women’s football in our community!” Williams said.

Prior to the arrival of support from more sponsors, Davis said that on the closing time of the second day of their boot camp two weeks ago, several women came up to them to make a last minute registration.

With the additional registrants, Davis stated, the league was able to muster six teams.

Previously, they were able to organize five teams only out of the 53 total number of women registrants in the boot camp.

The Women’s Futsal League kicked off on October 11 and will conclude on December 6. Game schedule is every Saturday at the Northern Marianas College.

“The Women’s Committee would also like to thank our sponsor NMC for donating the use of the NMC Gym!” Williams said in an official statement.

Futsal is known as five aside, or indoor soccer, and is a sport that demands quick reflexes, fast thinking, and accurate ball control.

It is played on a basketball style court, with no walls and a low bouncing ball, requiring players to use their skill rather than the ball’s bounce to propel it.
