Musca, Zapanta are king, queen of the lanes

Piling his total pinfalls to 998 with an average of 249.5, Musca defeated August King of the Lanes Raymond Angeles for the top spot by 188 pins. Musca secured his title after the first three games, earning 279 in game one, 246 in game two, and 278 in game three. He came second to no one except Percy Omechelang, who gained 221 pinfalls in game four of Sunday’s game, beating Musca’s 195. No other bowler rose to challenge Musca’s scores from day one of the two-day tournament, which started last Sunday and ended last Monday.

Gigi Zapanta reached her strongest point in the tournament after earning 206 pinfalls in game two from Sunday.

After striking the highest pinfalls in game one, September’s Queen of the Lanes Gina Sablan had potential to claim this month’s title. However, she faltered along games two and three, giving way to Zapanta and first runner up Linda Yarobwemal. Zapanta snatched 185 pinfalls for game three and 158 in game four, giving her the highest total of 724 pinfalls in the ladies’ division. Her 181 average pushed Yarobwemal into second place, while Diana Chong placed third with her total of 647 pinfalls.

In the men’s division, Angeles placed second with 810 pinfalls and a 202.5 average, while Simon Manacop won third place with 791 and an average of 197.75 pinfalls.

As part of the monthly tournament, the top three individuals from the men and women’s categories were awarded cash prizes, with Rusty Musca winning $75 and Gigi Zapanta gaining $65. Angeles received $40, Manacop received $25, Yarobwemal won $30, and Chong earned $20.

Aldan reclaims prince of the lanes title

MJ Aldan conquered rival Marion Mckenzie for first place in the FIJI Water Monthly Prince and Princess of the Lanes Tournament last Sunday, also played at Capital Bowling Center.

With a 641 pinfall total and 160.25 average, Aldan cruised to the lead against the tournament’s five other participants. Mckenzie and Leeanne Yarobwemal played evenly against Aldan in the first three games, with Yarobwemal starting strong at 173 pinfalls in game one. Aldan picked up speed in game two with 159 pinfalls, while Mckenzie dominated game three with 189 pinfalls.

The outcome wasn’t decided until the final round of the tournament where Aldan knocked more than 200 pins, placing him ahead of the other bowlers. Aldan’s October title is merely an addition to his past accomplishments in the sport, where he also won August’s Prince and Princess of the Lanes Tournament.

Mckenzie came next to Aldan in the rankings with a total of 586 pinfalls while Yarobwemal finished third with 559 pinfalls. Also in the tournament were Donald Hockett, Marcel Mckenzie, and Ryan Batac.

The SBA’s next King and Queen of the Lanes tournaments are scheduled for November 21 and 22. Coming up for SBA’s members is the 24th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship, which will start at November 3 in Pasay, Philippines.
