NMI riders ready to take on Guam in Turkey Cross Race this weekend

(MRA) — The Marianas Racing Association’s Annual Turkey Cross Race will take place on Nov. 25 and 26 at Cowtown Raceway Park in Marpi.  This two-day weekend event will feature motocross enthusiasts from the CNMI and Guam showcasing their racing skills as they go head-to-head to be the top rider in their respective classes.

With MRA’s successful Turkey Cross in 2022; its participation at Guam’s Smokin’ Wheels in April; and Team Guam’s commitment of over 40 racers, accompanied by race officials and family members expected to begin arriving as early as Wednesday, Nov. 22, race fans will be treated to an action-packed edge of their seats weekend.

MRA riders are ready to face Guam riders in this year’s Turkey Cross.  Both groups of riders have been on short breaks due to lack of available track on both islands.  After MRA’s Monster Energy Points Series Race that ended August this year, Cowtown Raceway Park was closed for track improvement and extension.  It was initially set to close for two weeks’ time, but due to heavy rain on and off for weeks at a time, the track was not completely ready for two months.   Work is still ongoing at the track.

As for Guam, they are still working with the government agencies on getting their land back for motocross, drag strip and other events at their track.

This, however, does not reduce the excitement and readiness of the riders from both islands.  Saipan will be treated with high intensity racing in all divisions for two full days.   The format this year gives more opportunities for racers to capture the top spots with two heats on Saturday, Nov 25 and the third heat on Sunday.  It is also necessary for riders to be smart and conserve their machines as well as their body as a three-race weekend requires brute strength and smart racing.

Thank you to all the supporters of MRA’s Turkey Cross: the governor’s grants office, Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang, Saipan Mayor Ramon Camacho, JEM Ent., Mr. and Mrs. Ed and Jovie Flores, D&Q Ent. and Old Spice.  Very special thank you to the Department of Public Works-Roads and Grounds Division, Mike Borja, Commissioner Anthony Torres of the Department of Corrections and Lt. Jeff Quitugua of the department’s community outreach program.
