NMI tops group 3; earns promotion in Billie Jean King Cup

TEAM NMI concluded their matches at the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup with finesse as they not only topped their group, but earned a promotion to Group 2 in 2025 as well.

Playing at the Bahrain Tennis Federation courts in Isa Town, Bahrain, Team NMI concluded their last three matches on a high note.

Team NMI’s highlight was the Asia/Oceania III promotional play-off showdown against Myanmar, which they won, 2-1, on Saturday, Nov. 30.

The first match was between the NMI’s Maria Isabel Heras and Myanmar’s Nilar Win, who won in two sets, 6-3, 6-2.

However, Carol Lee kept Team NMI afloat with a dominant performance against Myanmar’s Htay Myint, 6-0, 6-0, to even the score.

In the third match, Heras had her redemption as she paired with Lee to take down Win and Thiri Zoun, 6-1, 6-3, and secure Team NMI’s promotion by defeating Myanmar, 2-1.

On Friday, Nov. 29, Team NMI dominated Macau, 3-0.

Team NMI’s Heras defeated Macau’s Weng Leong, 6-4, in the first set and went past their limits in the second set, 7(8)-(6)6 to clinch victory. Lee followed suit in the second match against Jamie Lau, 6-1, 6-3, while Hye Jin Elliot and Asia Raulerson emerged triumphant in the doubles event against Macau’s Si Ho and Lau, 7-5, 6-4.

On Wednesday, Nov 27, Team NMI swept Brunei, 3-0.

Heras excelled in her opening match against Danielle Lim, 6-1, 6-2, while Lee took down Jia Tan, 6-0, 6-1, and Elliot and Raulerson kept the streak going with a win against Eunice Lo and Areeesha Zain, 6-1, 6-2.
