The NMIVA officers and members who attended the meeting voted for Public Auditor Mike Pai and Rep. Edward Salas. They are filling in the positions of outgoing board members Sia Maui Delacruz and Kim Peterson.
Those who were voted to remain with the board are Gabriel C. White, Russ Quinn, Kelley Butcher, Mili Saiki and Laurie Peterka.
Peterka said many of the NMIVA members attended the meeting and discussed the 2008-2009 accomplishments, the Micro Games 2010, program development plans, committees and volunteer efforts.
The officers and members welcomed and congratulated Pai and Salas, and honored those who remain dedicated to the group. They also acknowledged Dela Cruz and Peterson, thanking them for the generosity and dedication in helping keep volleyball alive in the CNMI.
“We look forward to their continued involvement and dedication through their committee participation,” Peterka said.
The new board will meet within the next couple of weeks to elect among themselves, the 2009-2010 officers.
NMIVA, Peterka said is “anxious to set a course for 2009-2010 with regards to community programs.”
She said they focus on helping interested participants to become certified referees, which is the common request of schools.
Board members Quinn noted that these courses are a perfect for the Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization, Coalition of Private School Sports Assocation and other youth volleyball development coordinators on the island.
NMIVA also focuses on activities for the coming year, which include working with the youth programs. It has set aside funds for equipment replacements at the Ada Gym, equipment cooperation programs, and scholarship assistance to those who are running youth development programs.
