THE Ol’Aces remain one of the top contenders in the majors division of the 2024 NSA Youth Baseball League after acquiring their fifth win by trouncing the Pirates, 38-7, at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Baseball Field on Saturday.
The Ol’Aces were nearly unstoppable as they filled the top of the opening inning with a bombardment of runs. Hit after hit, the bases quickly filled with the first five batters — Knox Sablan, Preston Santos, Liam Sablan, Tilsar Taisakan and Debron Saures — reaching home safely before the first out was made.
Despite the Pirates’ defensive efforts, five more runs were added before the Ol’Aces turned over the bottom half with an early double-digit lead, 10-0.
But the Pirates fought back by capitalizing off the pitcher’s errors with given walks for five runs scored to reduce the deficit, 5-10.
In the top of the second inning the Pirates’ pitcher, Tyler Mizutani, suddenly gained confidence from the mound and struck out three consecutive batters. Then, in the bottom half, the Pirates added one more run to close the distance, 10-6.
However, their hope of a comeback was quickly erased as the Ol’Aces resumed their onslaught in the top of the third inning with 16 runs added to regain a massive lead, 26-6.
The Pirates answered with a single run in the bottom half while the Ol’Aces maintained efficiency from the batter’s box with 12 more runs to move further out of reach.
The Pirates had one last chance to escape the 10-run mercy rule, but they were met with three straight strikeouts, which ended the game with the Ol’Aces as the victor, 38-7.
