THE “no point” opening event of the PSS-NMNPSF Interscholastic Outrigger Race Series SY24-25 saw even performances from the four participating teams — Kagman, Marianas, Saipan Southern High School, and Mount Carmel School — at Kilili Beach on Saturday.

In the girls 500m event, the preliminaries saw MCS at the forefront finishing first with a time of 03:30.320 while KHS came in second at 03:35.210, followed by MHS at 03:41.910, and SSHS at 03:54.640.

In the final round, KHS corrected their wrongs and were rewarded with a first-place finish with a time of 03:36.080. MCS came in second at 03:38.620 followed by MHS at 03:41.490 and SSHS at 03:47.780.

Although MHS did not perform well in the 500m distance, they exceeded expectations in the longer 1000m race, claiming both rounds.

In the preliminaries, MHS finished over 20 seconds ahead of the competition with a time of 07:22.440. KHS was second at 07:49.200, followed by MCS in third at 07:52.800, and SSHS in fourth at 08:15.890.

In the final round, MHS finished first with a time of 07:33.550. In second to fourth places were MCS at 07:52.570, KHS at 08:01.560, and SSHS at 08:18.060.

As for the boys division, KHS ruled the 500m distance, placing first in both rounds. In the preliminaries, they finished first with a time of 02:53.910 followed by MHS at 03:07.900, MCS at 03:10.670, and SSHS at 03:17.100.

KHS then dominated the finals with a first-place finish at 03:01.990, followed by SSHS at 03:03.900, MHS at 03:06.830, and MCS at 03:09.140.

In the 1000m race, it was SSHS’ time to shine.

In the preliminaries, KHS finished first with a time of 06:38.710, while MHS and MCS were disqualified for miscalculated turns, allowing SSHS to take second place with a time of 07:07.170.

In the final round, SSHS didn’t need another freebie as they clinched first place with a time of 06:36.170, beating KHS, which finished at 06:49.500, followed by MHS at 06:51.920 and MCS at 07:28.080.

SSHS likewise excelled in the mixed division, claiming both rounds of the 500m distance. The preliminaries saw them finishing first with a time of 03:16.560 while MHS and MCS came in second and third at 03:26.240 and 03:29.330, respectively.

In the finals, SSHS notched victory with a time of 03:15.190 followed by MHS at 03:19.460, and MCS at 03:21.970.

KHS was disqualified in both rounds.

In the 1000m race, MHS came in first during the preliminaries with a time of 06:59.420 while SSHS followed behind at 07:02.770, and MCS came in third at 07:39.240. KHS suffered another disqualification.

In the finals, SSHS returned to the top with a time of 07:16.780. MCS finished second at 07:25.170, followed by MHS in third at 07:30.420, and KHS in fourth at 07:45.030.
